Slew footing- accidental: will result in a 4 minute penalty.  If the official deems the action to be overly aggressive or intentional, a Match Penalty will be given.  The offending player will not be able to play until all the facts have been assessed by the President and one non-offending team rep.  The President will decide the final outcome of a suspension or expulsion from the league.

Abuse of an official or player through inappropriate conduct or language or gestures will be dealt with in the strictest means.  This will result in suspension, to be determined by the President.


The Mississauga Over 50 League will operate a 6 team league playing hockey at Tomken Arena on Thursday nights, from September 21, 2023 to March 14, 2024.

Games shall consist of two 17 minute stop time periods after a two minute warm up period prior to the game.  There shall be no changing of ends by the teams. The timekeeper has the discretion to adjust the time of the second period to keep play within our allotted time for the evening.

If there is a 5 goal spread in the final period, there will be running time in the last 5 minutes. The clock will continue to run for the remainder of the game.

Player should be 50 years of age at the first game of the season. Each team will be allowed one player 49 years of age , if he is that age  the first gameof that season, and then he will be “grandfathered” into the league.

Goaltenders must be 45 years of age by the first game of the season. If a team is struggling to find a goaltender,  permission must be granted by the other teams who agree on the selected player.

Team should make sure all players attending each game are listed on the game sheet.  The timekeeper will check off the names of all players present and that shall be recorded in the league statistics. A player must play a minimum of 5 games with his team to be eligible to play in the playoffs.

Should two teams be tied in points at the end of the regular season, the higher ranking team shall be decided using the following format.

1.  Team with most wins.

2.  If still tied, the team with the better head to head record.

3.  If still tied, then the team with the better goal differential.

4.  If still tied, then the team with the fewest penalty minutes.

ROUND ROBIN PLAYOFFS TIE BREAKING FORMAT

Should two teams be tied in points at the end of the regular season, the higher ranking team shall be decided using the following format.

1.  Result of the game between the tied teams.

2.  If more than two teams tied, then the team with better goal differential.

3.  If still tied, then the team with the fewest penalty minutes.

PLAYING RULES

Any player receiving three minor penalties in a game will be required to leave that game.

When a player totals a number of penalties reaching six (6), the league will review and, if required, a formal warning will be issued and or further disciplinary action may be taken.

When a player receives ten (10) penalties, he may receive an automatic 1 game suspension. This will be at the discretion of the President/ Referee in Chief.  Should that player persist and show a reckless style of play, that player will be asked to leave the league.

High sticking the puck is a penalty.

All Major, Misconduct, Game Misconduct, Gross Misconduct and Match Penalties will result in the following suspensions.

Major Penalty: player will leave the game and then sit out the next time he is to play the opponent of the game he received the penalty in.

Misconduct: Player will leave that game.  Should a pattern occur, that player may incur a 1 game suspension at the discretion of the President.

Game Misconduct:  Player will leave  thatgame, and if for abuse of an official, the player will sit the following game or more at the discretion of the President.  If altercation is with opposing player(s), then that player will sit the next time he is to face that opponent.

Gross Misconduct: This will be dealt with by the President.  The player is automatically suspended for 3 games.

Major Penalty: player will leave the game and then sit out the next time he is to play the opponent of the game he received the penalty in.

Match Penalty: the offending player will serve a 5 game suspension. At the discretion of the President, that player can be removed from the league.

High sticking- unintentional contact with another player above the normal height of the shoulders with NO BLOOD- that player will receive a 5 minute penalty and cannot return until the 5 minutes have been served.  The offending team will put a player in the penalty box from those that are on the ice at the time of the offence to serve a two minute minor.

High sticking that draws blood: intentional or unintentional, the offending player will be ejected from the game.  The offending team will put a player in the penalty box to serve a 5 minute major. The player in the box can be replaced for the duration of the penalty.

Head contact has no place in hockey. Accidental contact will result in a minor penalty.  Intentional face washing will result in a 4 minute penalty.  If the degree of contact is considered aggressive enough that the helmet is unable to absorb the force, a 5 minute Major will be given.

Checking from behind- if accidental and no injury- a 4 minute minor will be given, and, or a Major or Game Misconduct.  If the official deems the action to be overly aggressive or intentional, a Match Penalty will be given.  The offending player will not be able to play until all the facts have been assessed by the President and one non-offending team rep.

A slap shot is a minor penalty.
